The semester is wrapping up and I’ll be starting my internship at the Height Libraries in a week and a half! But who the hell is this ‘librarian-in-training’? And what is this internship thing?
That’s me! My name is Ann. I’m a 21-year-old junior (almost rising senior) at Earlham College in Richmond, IN. I’m (finally officially) double-majoring in German Language and Literature and International Studies, with a focus on Europe. Oh, I’m also the principal cello of the Earlham College Symphony Orchestra. When I’m not at school, I live with my mom and her 5 cats in Cleveland, OH. There will be 6 cats this summer, as my boyfriend and my cat Meera will be joining my unruly clowder.
This summer, I have an internship at the Heights Libraries. The Heights Library system has four branches serving the Cleveland Heights/University Heights suburbs of Cleveland. My internship covers all facets of their services, but my main focus is Adult Services/Reference. I enjoy doing research (well, the finding of articles and information, not so much the research paper itself), so Reference seemed like a good fit. I’ll be using this blog to document and reflect on my time as an intern.
As a child and teen, I was a voracious reader. Lately, that wonderful habit has fallen by the wayside with classes and Netflix keeping me busy. This summer, I want to rediscover my love of books by reading lots of them! I’m using the BBC’s 100 Greatest Novels of All Time list as a starting point. I’m also not great at reviewing books, which seems like an important skill for a future librarian to have. So, I’m going to dive into the 73 books on the list I haven’t read yet (I told you, previously a very voracious reader) and review them on this blog! (This will also help me prepare for writing reviews for my German thesis, research commencing Fall 2013!)
