My first day at the Heights Library began with New Employee Orientation at 8:30 this morning. There were three other people in my orientation session – two new Associates in Adult Services (ASD) and a Shipping Associate. We met the Director and Deputy Director, who discussed the library’s history, funding and strategic planning. After that, I met with the Director of ASD. My supervisor is currently on vacation, but the ASD Director and I worked out a schedule for the next week. He gave me a tour of the library, which is a lovely, modern space.
The Training Manager and I also discussed more specifics of my internship. Here are the highlights:
- I’m working until the week of August 5th, with the exception of the week of July 27 – August 3, when I’ll be on vacation.
- I’ll be spending next week primarily involved with Adult Services.
- After that, I’ll be shadowing in the Teen and Children’s sections, as well as the other branches.
- I may be picking up evening hours at the HKIC, the huge computer/tech lab that just opened at the library.
- I’ll be working the formal Grand Opening of HKIC in early June.
It was a good first day. Everyone at the library is very nice and I felt very comfortable being there. There was a lot of information to take in, but I’m looking forward to the rest of the summer.
