Total Hours: 150!

Today was my last day at Perry Public Library. I staffed the reference desk, as usual, and helped Sharon set up iPods and Wi-Fi hotspots that will be used in the library’s ESL classes.

My practicum at Perry Public Library has been an invaluable learning experience. The library serves a very different community than my own, but many of the questions asked are very much the same. I was able to assist in entering valuable community surveys and collecting data on where patrons spend their time in the library. I answered non-tech related reference questions, reviving my skills with the ILS system. This was the first time I’ve observed another library’s computer classes. I gained an appreciation for commuters and those who work long hours at two jobs. I was able to offer an outside perspective on everything from website design to collection development to use of space. Most of all, I’m grateful for the people of the Perry Public Library who welcomed me into their library and let me hang out with them all summer.
